Wang Ying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Henan Medical School, took the chair.
At the meeting, all participants stood up and observed a minute of silence to express their deep condolences to the deceased. By watching the video recording of The Reader - Wu Mengchao, the Father of Hepatobiliary Surgery, they reminisced about his life story, especially his experience of studying and practicing medicine and his charismatic personality. Everybody was impressed by his benevolence, indifference to fame and wealth, and dedication to work.
Sun Junjian expressed his sorrow at the death of Mr. Wu and showed his respect with the poem Some People written by Zang Kejia commemorating Lu Xun. Sun pointed out that we should learn from Mr. Wu's noble character and his moral ethics as a CPC member. He also expressed that we should, taking him as an example, accelerate the innovation-driven development of medical education, develop the work plan with our own features, and carry out the new connotations of medical education; we should carry forward and inherit his spirit of staying true to the mission, caring little for fame and fortune, and being devoted and willing to serve as a ladder for others, turn this valuable spiritual wealth into a driving force for progress, and pick up the baton of our predecessors to bravely challenge new heights, keep forging ahead, and strive to put into practice the proverb - "if life does not cease, struggle will not stop"; we should learn from Wu Mengchao's firm belief in pursuing the light, loving the Party and serving the country, learn from his noble character of dedicating to the society and devoting himself to the people, learn from his enterprising spirit of bravely challenging new heights and constantly innovating, and learn from his spiritual realm of unselfish work and unremitting struggle so as to contribute to building a harmonious socialist society and promoting the innovation-driven development of medical education.
"With our eyes on diseases, we should also care about the patients and try to understand what they need, and have the courage to face challenges!" "Mr. Wu is the superstar we should chase. We should have love, care, patience, enthusiasm and compassion for our patients. We should dedicate out knowledge to them." "I'll have a heart of reverence and strive to shine in the cause I love."... Leaders and student representatives from the Publicity Department of HENU's Party Committee, Institute of Science and Technology, Henan Medical School, the First Affiliated Hospital, Huaihe Hospital, School of Clinical Medicine, university hospital, School of Nursing and Health, Joint National Laboratory for Antibody Drug Engineering, and School of Pharmacy all expressed their condolences and reverence for Mr. Wu Mengchao. They said that as the founder of hepatobiliary surgery in China, Wu Menghao promoted the development of liver medicine. He is a true doctor with a benevolent heart. Like a tireless old horse, he carried patients one by one across the river. As researchers, we need to learn from his spirit of having the courage to make breakthroughs, being diligent in practice, and trying to overcome hardships and his perseverance to keep working hard and never back down. As medical educators and learners in universities, we should learn from his benevolent spirit and his conscientious and meticulous attitude towards work and study. Truly caring about the people's hardships and solving their problems is the best way for us to commemorate Mr. Wu Mengchao.
