The year 2021 is the first year of the 14th Five-Year Plan and a critical year for the reform of the medical education management system of HENU, which is of great significance to the innovative development of medical education of HENU. On the morning of March 12, the 2021 Annual Working Meeting of Henan Medical School (HMS) was held in Meeting Room 151, Administration Building, Jinming Campus of HENU. Sun Junjian, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Committee and Vice President of HENU, and Secretary of the CPC Committee of HMS, and Yan Jianqun, Honorary Dean of HMS, attended the meeting. The leadership team and the directors of offices of HMS, the leadership team of the schools, hospitals, and scientific research institutions affiliated to HMS, directors of the Party Committee Office and the Principal’s Office, and the persons in charge of teaching, scientific research, and graduate and undergraduate students participated in the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Chen Hailing, Executive Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee.

Ren Xuequn pointed out in his speech that HMS has made new achievements in 2020, especially in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, where the HMS worked together to safeguard people’s lives and health with its own actions. In 2021, we must make good use of the overall advantages of comprehensive universities in running medical education, seize the historical opportunity of Double First-Class Initiative, stimulate medical school activities, and strive to blaze a new path for comprehensive universities to run medical schools. He emphasized that in 2021, it is necessary to focus on key tasks such as major certification and doctoral program declaration, and in accordance with the spirits of the document Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Innovative Development of Medical Education (Guobanfa [2020] No. 34), conscientiously summarize the achievements and deficiencies of medical education in HENU during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, formulate the 14th Five-Year Plan of HENU for medical education in a problem-oriented manner, accelerate the development of the medical education of HENU, and better support the construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines. He hoped that the medical students and staffs of HENU would be united as one to overcome difficulties, and move forward step by step during the hurdle stage of medical education. The future of HENU’s medical education is not the best, only better.

Sun Junjian fully affirmed and admired the work of each unit of HMS over the past year. Considering the spirit of HENU’s 2021 annual working meeting and preparation and mobilization meeting for the 110th anniversary of NENU, he asked to do well in the work of the new semester of HMS, and talked about three issues: What is the current situation? What is the development direction of the medical education? and how to do this year?

He pointed out that the medical education reform of HENU has entered more different phase, and we must seize the opportunity, adhere to the CPC’s guidelines and policies, comply with the requirements of the national and provincial government documents and policies, and make every effort to formulate the HENU’s Implementation Plan on Accelerating the Innovative Development of Medical Education and the 14th Five-Year Plan for medical education, implement specific measures to further deepen the reform and development of medical education in HENU. He emphasized that it is necessary to focus on the main line of cultivating high-level medical personnel with high medical ethics and exquisite medical skills, adhere to the CPC’s education policy and health policy, follow the law of medical education and the growth of medical talents, and take major certification as the starting point to comprehensively promote the construction of the medical disciplines. In addition, we must take the opportunity of degree conferring institution application and first-class discipline level assessment to strengthen the construction of new medical sciences; and promote improvement with reform, seek breakthroughs with innovation, and strive to achieve high-quality transformation and development of HMS.

He hoped that leading cadres should dare to take the lead, set an example, consolidate and deepen the educational achievements on the theme of "remaining true to our original aspiration and keeping our mission firmly in mind", and unremittingly temper the political character of CPC members and cadres that are loyal, honest and responsible. CPC members and cadres must bravely shoulder heavy responsibilities, overcome difficulties, carry forward the spirit of perseverance, and focus on key reform tasks; strengthen management and focus on improving the internal governance system. HMS must strengthen system construction, implement various work responsibilities, earnestly give play to the role of the "midfield line" of grassroots units, and focus on improving management efficiency; and make plans and conscientiously do well in the layout. It is necessary to adhere to the combination of goal-orientation and problem-orientation, clarify work measures, and scientifically and comprehensively study and formulate the overall strategy, core goals, key tasks and measures of the unit during the 14th Five-Year Plan period to achieve goals as the blueprint describes; and focus on practical results and improve the satisfaction and sense of acquisition of teachers, students and medical staff. HMS should make efforts to meet the needs of teachers and students, and strengthen the sense of service; strengthen supervision, form a closed-loop management system, optimize the efficiency construction and style evaluation system of the agency, and promote the implementation of work; and observe discipline and implement all tasks without compromise. HMS should conduct overall planning, unified deployment and vigorous implementation of work, and strives to promote the innovative development of medical education; and emphasize unity, strengthen communication and exchange, and cooperate to win the battle.
